What a great day. For my last day in Japan I attended to BIG college baseball game. Longtime rivals Keio University and Waseda University, both of which we visited, were facing off. A student from Waseda University, whom had kept in contact with Radin, invited us to join him. It is really to bad that most of the other study abroad students had returned home. This game had more energy, and the crowds had so much more to cheer for than at the Tokyo Giants game. We learned chants and school fight songs. The most memorable of these was a song that lasted twenty minutes! The Waseda cheering section couldn’t stop until the inning was over, and they had struck out Keio’s last batter. It was INTENSE! The game was a blast and Waseda ended up winning. “We Winners Waseda!” (song title) One of the most respectful spectacles I have seen in Japan occurred after the game was over. After Waseda’s school song was finished, the entire crowd sang a song to Keio, honoring the school.
On a side note, a bird shat on me halfway through the game. I have nothing more to say…

I am soo jealous that you guys go to go to this baseball game. This should have been part of the trip! How was the baseball at this stadium compared to the baseball at the Tokyo Dome? I imagine it was a little different atmosphere being outdoors (bird poop). I’m glad you got to enjoy collegiate baseball as well as professional.

Wow, you guys went to another sports event without us? Cool. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun, I wish I could have went and it also looked like you had great seats. I guess the Giants game wasn’t enough for you all, you had to go and show off. Study Abroad in Japan rules, but in this case, vacation in Japan riles because technically you went without us. Good times, I would like to see more pictures.

I thought the real difference between this game and the game at the Tokyo Dome was that we were really given a chance to connect with a couple of native Japanese on a far deeper level. I was amazed at how easily we communicated, even with the cultural barrier and slight language gap. This was my favorite part of the Japan trip because I now have a better understanding of the Japanese people after this experience.

Though you find most Japanese people pretty shy, in this case, would could communicate very well. We repeated sentences that they did not understand, with alternative words. They used to work with their mobile dictionary, but at the end, with spending a bit more time, we all understood each other.
You remember how they used to sing their cheering song ? all the crowd so organized ! and when we were also singing a Japanese song with them, I felt belong to that atmosphere.

I think it is really cool you guys had a chance to meet up with a student from Waseda and join them in a rivalry baseball game! That is some social networking at its best! Also, this time at least you had someone to help you guys with the chants! Lol When we at the Tokyo Giants game, I can honestly say for myself, that I was just making noise whenever the crowd was chanting, but it was fun! Go Waseda!! Also, sorry that you got pooped on by the bird, but at least you had a great time!!
